Ouarzazate & Aït Ben Haddou Day Excursion from Marrakech

10 hours

Easy

Journey across the Atlas Mountains to discover Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Morocco,” and the UNESCO‑listed Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou, with breathtaking landscapes, Berber villages, and cinematic history.

Embark on a 10‑hour journey to Ouarzazate, famously known as Morocco’s Hollywood and the Gate of the Desert. Located about 200 km south of Marrakech, this quiet and charming city offers breathtaking scenery and cultural treasures.

Although one day is not enough to explore all of Ouarzazate and its surroundings, this exceptional excursion will take you through some of the region’s most spectacular sites. Travel across the Atlas Mountains and cross Africa’s highest pass, the Tizi‑N’Tichka (2260 meters), while enjoying panoramic views and a succession of picturesque Berber villages.

As you approach the south, the landscapes shift to desert‑like terrain and lush palm groves. Your first major stop will be the Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou, a fortified village listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With a local guide, explore this impressive kasbah, a backdrop for famous Hollywood films such as Gladiator, The Mummy, Lawrence of Arabia, Kingdom of Heaven, and Babel.

Afterward, continue to Ouarzazate to visit the Kasbah of Taourirt and, if you wish, one of the city’s renowned cinema studios. Enjoy lunch at a traditional Moroccan restaurant before beginning your return journey to Marrakech.
